Malawi Government
Structure of Government
Malawi operates as a democratic republic with three branches of government:
- Executive: Led by the President who serves as both Head of State and Government, elected for a five-year term.
- Legislative: The National Assembly consists of members elected from constituencies across the country.
- Judiciary: An independent branch headed by the Supreme Court of Appeal and the High Court.
Local Government
Malawi is divided into three regions (Northern, Central, and Southern), which are further divided into 28 districts. Each district is administered by a District Council, like the Dedza District Council, responsible for local governance and service delivery.
National Development
The government is implementing the Malawi 2063 vision aimed at transforming Malawi into an inclusively wealthy, self-reliant, industrialized upper-middle-income country. This long-term development strategy focuses on agricultural transformation, industrialization, and urbanization as key drivers of economic growth.
